A quick update from Halifax. Things are going well as Jack is overall a very good kid. While there definitely are similarities between him and Dylan when she was a newborn there are also a couple of BIG differences. Jack spends a lot more time awake with his eyes open following you around, which is really nice as you feel like you’re getting to know him better. Jack also eats a lot more than Dylan. So far it isn’t uncommon for him to breastfeed for an hour and then put back another three to four ounces of formula from the bottle – the kid is going to be a brute at this pace! Nardine is doing an excellent job at breastfeeding. The public health nurse got her through her initial difficulties and Nardine is now going at it like, well not an old pro yet but definitely a seasoned amateur! Overall the experience with Jack has been easier than with Dylan as both Nardine and myself are a lot more confident with our parenting/child rearing skills. The one thing that is still lacking though is sleep – four hours a night is just not enough for a guy like me who loves getting a solid eight, but hey it’s only temporary! It’s been great having Cas and John here as they are able to keep it together for Nardine and myself when the sleep deprivation really sets in. Mom and Dad – get ready for some serious responsibilities when you arrive!
Dylan still continues to love being a big sister and Jack loves having her around. So far Dylan is about the only thing that will keep Jack calm while he’s having his diaper changed (for a little while at least). Thought you might like to see Dylan’s sister skills in action so I posted the video below. There’s a continuation of it at our YouTube sight.
Finally for all of you dying to have high quality photos of Jack, click on the ‘Photo’ link at the top of the page (just above the ‘the kwasnys’ title in the header). I’ll be continuing to update our best selection of photos to this page for your viewing pleasure and so you can download and print off some photos of decent quality if you’d like.
